Spring Break for Women in Hyde Park
A Blast in the Past
The Vanerbilt Mansion overlooking the Hudson River
The Culinary Institute of America
May 2007
Our Spring Break for women in Hyde Park was a wonderful combination of history and hiking, with some culinary delights thrown in. Based at the Roosevelt Inn in Hyde Park,we had walking access to the Roosevelt home, museum and library, the summmer retreat, and the Vanderbilt Mansion. But rather than walk down route 9, we wound our way through historic neighborhoods to woodland trails along the river.
We also toured the Culinary Institute of America and had dinner in the French and Italian restaurants.
We spent a perfect morning hiking around Lake Minnewoska in the Mohonk Preserve, followed by a picnic perched on an overlook of the glacial lake and a hike along Awosta Falls where we refreshed our feet in the icey waters.
You can feel as though you've traveled back in time as you explore the history and culture of this little area-- once a home for some of America's wealthiest and now a treasure trove for the discerning tourist, history buff and nature enthusiast.
