Philadelphia is a livable city, and that also means its a very walkable place. Staying at the Omni at Independence Park put us right smack in the middle of the Historic district. We were just blocks from Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the new Constitution Museum and Society Hill.

In four days we absorbed American history and architecture as we trekked with local guides or on our own. We also toured Eastern State Penitentiary -- the first prison to focus on reform but to a fault. The solitude intended to heal tended to make prisoners go crazy.

I think just about everyone had a Cheese Steak at Jim's at 4th and South Street -- and loved them. And many walked along Penn's Landing each morning, taking in the breeze and sunshine available at the river's edge.

We toured Reading Terminal Market with a food writer, saw spectacular and sometimes sad murals in West Philly and saw the TIffany Mosaic, 'The Dream Garden' in the Curtis Building at Washington Square (it served as a backdrop in the movie, The Sixth Sense.

I think many will come back to Philly again, knowing they just skimmed the service of what the City of Brotherly Love has to offer.
