Getting to know Meiringen
Maggie and Fiona with group in the high marsh area
Murals abound in the old town section of Lucerne
Most of our group flew together from Newark to Zurich on Continental Airlines. Our van met us at the airport and we oohed and aahed at the spectacular scenery as we wound our way up into the mountains and down in the alpine valley of Meiringen.
October is a perfect month for hiking in Switzerland: not many tourists, moderate temperatures and plenty of sunshine. The colors in the high alps were changing daily, to reds, yellows and oranges.
We walked and hiked among some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, including the highest marshland anywhere. We explored fantastic glacial gorges, the azure blue lake of Brienz and the lively, old town streets of Lucerne.
"Beautiful vews, fantastic friends and a fabulous time!" Dave and Connie Howell, Maryland
"It was my fantasy fulfuilled and with the added pleasure of being with good people. It was wonderful!" Florine Burkhard, PA
Details:
Hotel Gletscherblick was our host hotel in 2007. It is situated high above Meiringen in a more serene location for sleeping! Our local guide, Fiona, is an English woman who taught at the International School in Meiringen. She and her husband and family operate the hotel with much care and concern for their guests. This tour will be offered in 2008 in the Fall.
